A Home for Model Flying Enthusiasts

Wessex Model Flying Club is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association (BMFA), the National Governing Body for the sport of model flying in the UK. All BMFA members benefit from full insurance cover.

Our members are radio-controlled model enthusiasts with a wide range of experience. We operate from our own dedicated grass flying site in Wiltshire, with access seven days a week, and privileged with authorised weekend access to an MOD airfield.

We fly a broad variety of aircraft, from high-end petrol and turbine models through to electric ‘ready-to-fly’ aircraft, and welcome pilots at different stages of the hobby.

New members are always welcome. If you’d like to learn more about model flying or are interested in joining the club, please get in touch through the New Members page.  Current members can renew online via the Renew link button to the right or request a membership form to be sent by email.

Flying, Events & Club Nights

WMFC hold Club winter meetings at indoor venues in Melksham or Trowbridge on the second Tuesday of December, January, February and March.

The December meeting is traditionally our annual ‘Bring and Buy or Swap’ meeting. Do come and get a bargain!!

We also meet most Wednesday evenings, (weather permitting) at our Poulshot site to fly during the summer months.

We hold BBQ events at least twice a year often with model flyers invited from other clubs or guests from the industry.

Notifications around flying activities are coordinated via our Club What’s App Group or Email and available in advance on the WMFC Events programme which is regularly updated and detailed on our Events pages.

Flying Safely & Legally

Here are some links to guidelines which explain some of the legalities and regulations affecting model flying across the UK. All UK aviation to include Model aviation is regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

We do not allow UAVs commonly referred to as Drones to operate at our sites.

All aspects of model aviation are available on the BMFA website.

The Quick Start Guide is a good place to start for now but do not let any of this put you off as it is all very straight forward, mostly common sense.

The club committee and experienced members are always happy to assist, advise and mentor newer pilots.
